Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data Bites collects, why, and what your rights are. We've kept it short on purpose — there isn't much to say, because we don't ask for much.
Who runs Bites. Bites is an independent project run by Liam Pell ("we", "us") from the United Kingdom. Contact: chat@menubites.uk.

1. What we collect
We try to collect as little as possible.
- Saved places. When you tap "save" on a restaurant, we store the place and an anonymous device ID (a random UUID generated in your browser) so your saves persist across sessions on the same device. We do not link this to your name, email, or any other identifier.
- Analytics. We use Plausible or Vercel Analytics to count visits, page views, and the share of visits that result in a save. These are privacy-friendly tools that do not set advertising cookies and do not track you across other sites.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-lived request logs containing IP addresses, user agents, and URLs, used solely to diagnose errors and abuse.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, payment information, or precise location. We do not create an account for you. We do not sell data to anyone.
2. Cookies and local storage
Bites uses your browser's local storage to remember your anonymous device ID and your saved places. This is essential for the product to work and is not shared with third parties.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
3. Third parties whose data we display
The restaurant information you see (names, ratings, opening hours, photos) is drawn in part from the Google Places API under Google's terms of service. Restaurant logos, social handles, and similar branding are taken from each restaurant's own public website. If you believe information shown for your restaurant is incorrect, email chat@menubites.uk.
4. Where your data is stored
Your saved places are stored in our Supabase database, hosted in the EU. Analytics events are stored by our analytics provider (Plausible: EU; Vercel Analytics: EU/US under Standard Contractual Clauses).
5. How long we keep it
- Saves are kept until you clear them or until your anonymous device ID has been inactive for 24 months, after which we delete them.
- Analytics aggregates are retained for up to 24 months.
- Server logs are retained for up to 30 days.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to processing. Because we do not know who you are, the practical way to exercise these rights is:
- Forget my saves on this device: clear your browser's storage for menubites.uk, or use the "Clear all saves" control in the app.
- Anything else: email chat@menubites.uk and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
7. Changes
We'll update the date at the top of this page when we change anything material. If we ever start collecting account-level data (e.g. add login), we'll publish a new version and link to it from the site.
